My husband installed our lighting and ever since it will shut off after a while. Then about 5 minutes goes by and it will turn back on. I’m handier than my husband and would like to fix the problem, but he threw away the packaging. BTW-The timer is set correctly.

The transformer is overheating. Most of the transformers have a safety switch that turns them off if they get hot.

    A few common causes:

    1) too much wattage/too many lights for the transformer. If everything came in one kit, this is probably not the problem. Otherwise, you need to find a copy of the instructions online and see what your transformer can handle.

    2) Wire is to small for the length of the run. Again not a likely problem if this is one kit. Check the instructions for this one as well.

    3) A short in the system somewhere. If the wire connects to the transformer with screw terminals, make sure that there aren’t any stray wires touching both terminals. Check for bad connections along the run. If one of the connections was put on, then taken off and repositioned you can get a short in the original location sometimes.

    4) A bad fixture. If all else fails, try removing one at a time and see if the problem goes away.

YOU PROBALLY HAVE A BAD TRANSFORMER CHECK THE LIGHTS BY DISABLEING THE TIMER IF THE STILL DO IT THEN THE TRANSFORMER IS BAD ALSO CHECK THE TRANSFORMER IF IT HAS A PHOTOCELL IF IT DOES THEN IT MAY BE IN A PATH OF LIGHT SAY WHEN A CAR PASSING BY OR STREET LIGHT MAY ALSO EFFECT IT

I haven’t a clue as to what the problem is or how to solve it****
I can however offer a suggestion……..If you know the brand name or name of the company try to find in online and usually they have a contact us/email address. If you can’t remember
the name go back to the store and look for the one you purchased there might be a 800 number on the package or a URL..
I find it’s much safer to remove such information from the husband for safe keeping make copies for him for installation and you keep the original. LoL!

here a test you should do assuming you have a dusk till dawn timer and it has (on, 4hr, 6 hr and auto) settings.. In the day switch it to on and see if it still turns off.. If not then its not overheating and there is no bad wiring. if you have set at 4hr at night and its doing that then you might wanna check the postioning of the timer. Mine was actually getting hit by the malibu lights and the timer was thinking it was daytime because of the light! so it would turn off/on .. just relocate the timer if thats the case
